UH Staff Council Wraps Successful Sock & Blanket Drive, Benefiting Star of Hope Mission

The University of Houston’s Staff Council conducted its annual Sock & Blanket Drive, from Wednesday, Nov. 1 to Thursday, Dec. 14. The drive, benefiting the Star of Hope Mission, aimed to collect new and gently used items to provide warmth and comfort to Houston’s homeless men, women and children during the winter season.

Donations of new and clean, gently used items such as coats, sweaters, gloves, slippers, blankets, socks and more poured in from generous contributors throughout the University community. The drop-off location at UH Technology Bridge became a hub of compassion as staff members united to contribute to the cause.

“It is inspiring and uplifting, especially in the season of giving, to see the University come together around this important cause,” said Whitney Johnson, Staff Council president.

Thanks to the overwhelming support and generosity of the UH community, six large bags and boxes were filled with essential items. These contributions will have a positive effect on the lives of the people served by the Star of Hope Mission and provide much-needed warmth and comfort during the winter months. Community events like this emphasize the power of collective kindness in making a positive difference in the lives of those less fortunate.

The Cougar community is a special community with Cougar spirit beaming in all that we do, and we appreciate each person that helped make our annual Sock & Blanket Drive a success,” Johnson said.
