Fall was in the air on October 5th around Cougar Woods Dining Commons with UH Dining Services hosting the JoyFul Fall FestiFul.

The JoyFul Fall Festiful was organized to celebrate and usher in the autumn season via fall-themed menu options at all UH dining halls.

The prized highlight of the festival was a Farmer’s Market outside Cougar Woods Dining Commons. It featured over 25 local vendors making it the largest farmer’s market to date to take place at the university.

Some of the vendors included Oils Earth, Sweet Indulgences, Pop Soap, Popssibilities Mexican Paletas, Houston Skateboards, and Cranky Carrot Juice Co., to name a few. And the vendors were busy as students filtered in and out throughout the afternoon.

Sophomore Tristan Deveyra loved seeing all the different local vendors at the market, which allowed him to support local businesses.

For freshman Ariyanah Dawson, the vendors that grabbed her attention were the crystals vendor. Dawson said she’s fascinated by crystals and was thrilled to see a crystal vendor.

One reason many students flocked to the farmer’s market is knowing the vendors accept Cougar Cash.

“That makes this market more accessible to our students because they're able to use the money that comes with their meal plan to purchase local products from these vendors,” said UH Dining Services and Chartwells District Marketing Manager Alexcis Mendoza. “So, I think that's what really makes it more successful.”

That’s one of the things that Junior Ness Henley loved about the farmer’s market.

“It’s cool to give students an option to use Cougar Cash because is money that we’ve already paid for,” said Henley. “And students get to have a good time getting to go shopping right on campus.”

Apart from shopping from local vendors, attendees were also treated to line dancing classes, and had the opportunity to take photos at a mini pumpkin patch.

“As a team we’re really excited to bring this Joyful series event here to campus and we’ll continue to do these events as the year runs on,” said Mendoza.
