Session 1: Abstraction
Saturday, February 18, 2023 | 2:00pm-4:00pm

Explore abstraction and take inspiration from Jorge Pardo’s Folly to create a plein air sketch using both geometric and organic shapes. Pardo’s intent is for his architectural artwork to heighten the capacity to “structure to our looking” across the wooded space that it inhabits—Wilhelmina’s Grove, one of the last original wooded areas remaining at UH.

Workshop Location: Jorge Pardo’s Folly is located in Wilhelmina’s Grove at the University of Houston, a serene greenspace located between the Blaffer Art Museum and Moores College of Music.

Recommended Parking: Free parking vouchers are available for the Elgin Street Garage only. See rates and all visitor parking options at the University of Houston at: uh.edu/af-university-services/parking/parking-on-campus/visitor

Session 2: Point of View
Saturday, February 25, 2023 | 2:00pm-4:00pm

Experiment with subtle and dramatic changes in perspective to create a strong painting composition. Charles Ginnever’s parallelogram-shaped Troika appears to flatten and expand in space as the viewer moves around it, making it a complex work of sculptural illusion.

Workshop Location: Charles Ginnever’s Troika is located on the North Exterior of the Science & Engineering Classroom Building (SEC) and across Cullen Boulevard from the Fertitta Center arena at the University of Houston.

Recommended Parking: Free parking vouchers are available for Elgin Street Garage only. See rates and all visitor parking options at the University of Houston at: uh.edu/af-university-services/parking/parking-on-campus/visitor

Session 3: Contrast
Saturday, March 4, 2023 | 2:00pm-4:00pm

Tony Smith’s The Snake is Out is an example of the artist’s approach to Minimalism. The work began as a chance arrangement of geometric units with no particular base. This work is on long-term loan to Public Art UHS from The Menil Collection, Houston.

Workshop Location: Tony Smith’s The Snake is Out is located on the South Exterior of the Fine Arts Building and Blaffer Art Museum at the University of Houston.

Recommended Parking: Free parking vouchers are available for Elgin Street Garage only. See rates and all visitor parking options at the University of Houston at: uh.edu/af-university-services/parking/parking-on-campus/visitor
