Houston Guided Pathways to Success Awarded $900,000

The University of Houston has been awarded $900,000 in grants from five foundations to launch the Houston Guided Pathways to Success (Houston GPS) Equity Walk: Building a Postsecondary Blueprint for Equity in the Texas Gulf Coast Region. This new initiative will help institutions gain traction from discussions about barriers leading to inequitable student outcomes to taking actions aimed at dismantling those barriers.

Architecture Professors Receive Distinguished Course Development Prize

Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture and Design professors Matthew Johnson and Michael Kubo have been selected for the 2021 Course Development Prize in Architecture, Climate Change, and Society for their research that explores issues of environmental justice and inequity. Johnson and Kubo's proposal was one of five chosen from among 70 submissions across the United States.

 UH Department of Earth & Atmospheric Sciences assistant professor Jonny Wu and graduate student Spencer Fuston's work to reconstruct the vanished Resurrection Plate offshore western Canada was featured on Live Science’s list of the “10 Geological Discoveries that Absolutely Rocked 2020.”

University of Houston Law Center second-year student Charisma Ricksy Nguepdo has been named the Houston Law Review’s editor-in-chief. "I recognize that my election as the first Black editor-in-chief means that I have now opened a door for other students of color to dream a little bigger,” Nguepdo said.

The UH College of Pharmacy Delta Delta Chapter of the Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity has secured its fifth consecutive "Chapter of the Year Award" in the national organization's Southwest Province for their volunteer work and the coordination of eight wellness fairs to educate the community.
