Professor Wins 2020 North American Society for the Sociology of Sport Service Excellence Award

Department of Health and Human Performance Interim Chair and Professor Billy Hawkins has been honored with the 2020 North American Society for the Sociology of Sport Service Excellence Award. It is presented to an individual for distinguished service and longtime contributions to the organization and has made a scholarly impact on the field through the discipline of the sociology of sport.


UH Professors Named 2020 Globally Top 1% Highly Cited Researchers 

Moores Professor Zhu Han of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department in the Cullen College of Engineering, and Zhifeng Ren, M.D. Anderson Chair, Professor of Physics in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, and Director of the Texas Center for Superconductivity, have been named in the annual Highly Cited Researchers™ 2020 list from Clarivate. The annual list identifies researchers who demonstrated significant influence in their chosen fields through the publication of highly cited papers.

Pharmacy Assistant Professor and Postdoctoral Fellow Earn $200,000 Grant to Develop Curricula

UH College of Pharmacy Clinical Assistant Professor Austin De La Cruz, Pharm.D., BCPP, and Tamara Al Rawwad, Ph.D., postdoctoral fellow, have been awarded a two year $200,000 grant from the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to develop and integrate substance use disorder education into professional pharmacy and medicine curricula.

Olivia Johnson, assistant professor in retailing and consumer science, was selected as one of four UH Assistant Professor Excellence Series speakers. She presented her research on "Preserving Diverse Voices on Social Media," focused on the intersection of social media and connective movements.

A new $500,000 grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to the University of Houston builds on the initial grant in 2017 that established the program and will support an additional 60 undergraduate humanities students over the next three years. The awards embrace equity in higher learning.

The Humana Integrated Health System Sciences Institute at the University of Houston and the UH Graduate College of Social Work are proud to announce Associate Professor Sheara Williams Jennings as the Humana Endowed Chair in Social Determinants of Health.
