UH Population Health Celebrates Second Anniversary with Multiple New Initiatives

Today marks the second anniversary of UH Population Health, and there is much to celebrate. As it moves into its third year, the first-of-its-kind initiative is advancing with new educational programs, NIH-funded research, and transformative, novel initiatives to improve the Greater Houston region and beyond.

New Executive Advisory Committee Members
UH Population Health moves into its new phase with four new esteemed members on its Executive Advisory Committee and the return of inaugural member Dr. Tamera Baer, senior expert at McKinsey & Company and pediatrician for Boston Children’s Hospital. New members include:

  • Sarvi Bajwa, a proud UH engineering alum and the Danone senior vice president of manufacturing for North America
  • Reena Evers-Everette, the executive director of the Medgar and Myrlie Evers Institute
  • Elena Marks, the senior fellow in health policy at Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy
  • Dr. Omar Matuk, the chief medical officer and clinical services officer for Suvida Healthcare

New Integrative Health and Well-being Coaching Certificate Program Starts in June

STUDENT ENGAGEMENT

UH Seniors Abigail Jeyaraj and Kimeera Paladugu

UH Seniors Abigail Jeyaraj and Kimeera Paladugu (l-R) were the only undergraduate team accepted to present research at the Interdisciplinary Association for Population Health Science (IAPHS) National Conference in Baltimore on Oct. 2-5. The teams’ poster presentation covered a scoping review of the relationship between recess and disparities in elementary-aged school children. Jeyaraj and Paladugu are both officers in UH’s IAPHS Student Chapter, led by UH Population Health.

ACCOLADES
Nomita BajwaNomita Bajwa, managing director of the Population Health Collaborative, has been accepted into the OTT School’s highly competitive School for Think Tankers course in Brussels, Belgium.

 

Dr. Bettina BeechBettina Beech, Chief Population Health Officer, is the co-editor of “Race and Research: Perspectives on Minority Participation in Health Studies” textbook, which will be published in February. In addition, Beech was selected to the USAA-founded Face the Fight Scientific Advisory Committee, and as an inaugural member of the University of Pittsburg Research Ethics Advisory Board.
