Construction of the John O'Quinn Law Center
Building Underway 

Construction of the new UH Law Center has begun. "This has been a decades-long dream of alumni, faculty, staff, students, and friends who wanted a facility reflecting the Law Center’s outstanding academic caliber," said Dean Leonard Baynes. The state-of-the-art building will open in 2022.


UH Student Honored by Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner

Yonatan Mascorro, a program mentor for the Academic Achievers Program in the UH Center for Mexican American Studies, is the recipient of the 2020 Mayor's Hispanic Heritage Youth Activist Award. Yonatan is a first-generation college student pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering and was recognized for mentoring 25 students in STEM courses at Stephen F. Austin Senior High School. During two years, he was able to guide low-performing students to the top 10 percent of their graduating class. 

 


Architecture Alumnus Carlos Soto Receives National Award

The Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) recently honored Carlos Soto, a May 2020 graduate of the Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture and Design for his housing project, “The Sky House.” His award-winning work began while he was a student in the studio of Architecture Professor Peter Zweig. The ACSA jurors commented, "The Sky House is selected to receive an honorable mention to highlight the beautiful forms created by the student, as well as the strength of the graphic presentation." 


The Journal of Retailing has presented C. T. Bauer College of Business Associate Dean of Research and Professor of Marketing Vanessa Patrick with the 2020 Outstanding Reviewer Award. Patrick is an Associate Editor for the prestigious journal.

CLASS Professor Leandra Zarnow makes the case for the legacy of former U.S. Congresswoman Bella Abzug in her book, Battling Bella: The Protest Politics of Bella Abzug. It is reviewed by The New York Review alongside the play Bella, Bella in a feature about Abzug's life.

Cynthia V. Castro, a doctoral student from the Cullen College of Engineering, earned the American Water Works Association Scholarship. Castro is passionate about high-level water planning because of her own experiences growing up along the Gulf Coast.
