Coogs in the Community
Every Year University of Houston participates in a number of community service and community outreach events which benefit the greater Houston area.  Students, faculty and staff are actively involved in serving our community. As part of Governmental Relations we want to share all of the community outreach and ensure we are all aware of community service opportunities and events throughout the upcoming months.

Events & Dates To Remember

Mayor Sylvester Turner’s Annual Acres Homes Juneteenth Parade - Saturday, June 16 10:00AM - Join University of Houston at the parade, it will begin at the Acres Homes Multi-Service Center located at 6719 W. Montgomery. As part of  the Emancipation Celebrations – 2018 Commemorating 154 years Since the Abolition of slavery in America -  for more Juneteenth events and information visit; Juneteenth Festival

Houston Pride Parade - Saturday, June 23, 8:00PM Downtown Houston - Begins at Smith St & Lamar St. Join University of Houston at the 2018 Houston Pride Parade,  Admission is FREE and open to public. Turn The Page  - A Literacy Initiative
University of Houston is teaming up with KHOU this summer from June 18 – July 8 to provide at-risk children with books to build their home libraries through the Houston-based non-profit “Books Between Kids” and the Houston Public Library system to promote its summer reading program. We will have five collection box locations across campus for you to donate books.  We are encouraging the UH community to gather new and gently used books to donate to underprivileged children in our area. Exact collection box locations will be announced via email.

Save The Date – The Mayors Back to School Fest 2018 will be taking place on Saturday, August 11 at the George. R. Brown Convention Center and University of Houston participates as the major educational sponsor.  2017 Back to School Fest

Community News Connection

UH community member and leader continues to make an impact in the Houston community and on our university campus.

During the month of May the University of Houston Advancing Community Engagement and Service Institute invited several groups of Third Ward Students to campus to Become Coogs for a Day.

Two University of Houston Law Center students will gain practical legal training with the Harris County District Attorney's Office.

University of Houston College of Optometry hosted their 2018 Open House event welcoming over 100 visitors.For pictures from this event click here!

The University of Houston community is expanding in Sugar Land & Katy areas with two groundbreakings in the last four months.

Tucker Johnson, instructional assistant professor at Hilton College-San Antonio Helps Students Dress for Success.

Health screenings were offered at a community fair held at Blackshear Elementary as part of the University of Houston Third Ward Initiative.
