Reminder: Free food distribution for UH community this week

Just a reminder that the University of Houston — in partnership with Qatar Charity — is giving out hundreds of boxes of food to members of the UH community this week. Any student can receive a box of non-perishable food at the Food Distribution Drive-Thru scheduled for November 17, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., at the southwest parking lot by TDECU Stadium on Scott Street. UH Wellness is organizing the drive-through food distribution and will be giving out 500 boxes of food. It will be first come, first served, but you must show your UH ID to receive a box.

The 30-pound boxes of food will contain non-perishable items like oatmeal, canned vegetables, rice and other pantry items.

To pick up a box of food: Enter the parking lot through the entrance on Cougar Place, sign in, show your UH ID, and a volunteer will place the box in your car. Questions: Contact Jessica Haney at 713-743-5430 or uhcupbrd@CougarNet.UH.EDU.

Thank-Ful celebration scheduled

On November 18, University of Houston students will join millions of others nationwide to simultaneously partake in an event called Thank-Ful and celebrate togetherness, give thanks, and fight food insecurity.

Thank-Ful will be held on campus at Cougar Woods Dining Commons, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and feature a Friendsgiving-style meal with Thanksgiving staples such as turkey, stuffing, cranberry crumble, and sweet potato pie. The event also provides students with an opportunity to show their gratitude for someone or something they appreciate with a thankful wall covered in thank you notes and letters. This event will also feature a prize wheel, outdoor games, and music. To spread the love this holiday season, the UH Dining team is adopting two local families for Thanksgiving, will continue to donate 200 meals every semester to help combat food insecurity on campus, and is currently hosting a canned food drive to support PEEPS Pantry on campus.
