Housing COVID-19 Update
01/27/2021, 12:00:01 PM

Dear Residents,

The spring semester is well underway, and we hope you are settled into your space and routine on campus. Whether you are a new or returning resident, we would like to provide you with some critical COVID-19 updates. SHRL encourages all residents, faculty, and staff to be vigilant with mask wearing, social distancing, handwashing and other prevention strategies.

COVID-19 Testing Resources

In partnership with the well-known testing company Curative, the university serves as a free COVID-19 testing site for faculty, staff, and students. Testing is by appointment only, and the kiosk is located in front of the UH Student Center South. Operating hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. You can review the details here

The Student Health Center provides COVID-19 testing for students, faculty, and staff who become symptomatic or have been identified as exposed on the UH campus. There is no charge for those with health insurance. Individuals who meet the criteria should call 713-743-4510 to set up their appointment for testing.

There are also several off-campus testing locations throughout Harris Country. You can find a testing center in your area on the Harris County Public Health website.

Reporting Forms for Residents

If you have tested positive, been diagnosed with COVID-19, or exhibit any Coronavirus Symptoms, you should notify the Desk Assistant, Resident Advisor, or Residence Life Coordinator in your residence hall via phone call or text regarding options available for self-quarantine or self-isolation. Additionally, you will need to complete the appropriate campus notification form:

  • If you are diagnosed with COVID-19 or receive a positive test result, complete the Reporting COVID-19 Diagnosis form

  • Per the UH website, residents who are symptomatic but have not tested positive for or been diagnosed with COVID-19 must contact their health provider or go to the Student Health Center for diagnosis, treatment, and/or COVID-19 testing. If you receive a positive diagnosis, complete the Reporting COVID-19 Diagnosis form

  • For residents who have potential exposure/confirmed exposure (i.e., someone close to you has tested positive, or a contact tracer notifies you), complete the Reporting Potential Exposure form

We All Have to Do Our Part

All residents were required to complete the Student Housing COVID-19 Acknowledgment prior to moving into their residence hall. We all have a shared responsibility to take the necessary steps to help minimize the spread of COVID-19. Each of us must protect ourselves and those around us. You can reduce your risk by taking these measures:

  • Wear a face mask anytime you are outside the confines of your room, suite, or apartment.

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

  • Use hand sanitizer, with 60 - 95% alcohol, if soap/water is not available.

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.

  • Avoid contact with people who are sick.

  • Stay or return home while you are sick and avoid close contact with others.

  • Cover your mouth and nose with your elbow or a tissue when coughing or sneezing.
