Answers About Reopening Research

We are now in our third week of Reopening Research with about 1,300 individuals on campus conducting research. It is important to follow the guidelines of wearing a face mask, social distancing and frequent hand-washing. Without a vaccine or a cure, these are our best options to reduce the risk of spreading the coronavirus. If you have not read SVP McShan’s email from April 27 about the UH requirement of wearing a face mask, please do so ASAP.

Pandemic Highlights Plight of Female Health Care Workers Torn Between Job and Home Duties

When it comes to waging war on the COVID-19 virus, those most likely to suit up are women.

“Nearly 90% of nurses and nursing assistants in the United States are women,” said Kathryn Tart, professor and founding dean of the UH College of Nursing, noting that women are also overwhelmingly the primary caretakers of their families. “With schools closed across the country, our female health care providers are left with a demanding, if not impossible schedule.”

Return to Work at the Office? Energy Workers Say “Not So Fast”

As Texas and other states begin to reopen retail and other businesses, workers who have been working from home – for some, for seven weeks or longer – face the prospect of returning to corporate offices and business workplaces. A study of the energy workforce released Thursday found that more than 70% of workers prefer to continue working remotely.

Texas Policy Experts Offer Playbook for Post-Pandemic Recovery

As state leaders begin to restart the Texas economy, policy experts from the Hobby School of Public Affairs at the University of Houston and the Lyndon B. COVID PPE Usage According to the CDC

Although COVID PPE usage is second nature to PIs, it’s worth reiterating some important points. Especially now that we’ve found ourselves in the midst of a pandemic. Here, we’ll take a look at some common PPE questions. We will refer to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) as our source for answering these important questions.
