With more than 130 countries represented in the student body and over 145 languages spoken in Houston, the University of Houston is a diverse reflection of global representation and we are excited to continue the forward momentum and commitment to service excellence across the A&F Division.
In this month’s issue, the notable highlights and accolades featured illustrate the A&F S.P.I.R.I.T. goals within team and individual performance.

The new facility on the north side of UH has a capacity for 2,400 students, faculty and staff to park their vehicles. When the sixth garage opens next year on the east side near Spur 5, it will be able to accomodate the same number of cars.

The July 30 event showcased the results and recommendations of the numerous assessment activities from across the Division, and highlighted how data and analytics have been used to continuously enhance and improve the wide-ranging services provided by A&F to the UH community.

The recently restored and refreshed camphor wood sculpture by Japanese-born artist Masaru Takiguchi was one of the first artworks purchased for the Public Art of the University of Houston System. It originally was installed in 1970 in the lobby of the Science & Research 1 building.

The new cards are equipped with a secure EV1 DesFire chip that guards against cloning and fraudulent activity. Current University of Houston faculty, staff and students will receive a new smart card throughout the fall and will be notified when theirs is ready to be picked up.

Catalyst's Blue Learning Path courses launched this summer when dedicated leaders from various UH departments took The 4 Roles of Leadership training. The next manager training class, Leading the Different Communication Styles, is set for Nov. 6. Enrollment is through P.A.S.S. Training.

ProPel participants employed their strategic thinking and team-building skills to successfully orbit the moon and bring the astronaut crew home safely in the "Houston, We Have a Problem" Apollo 13 Escape Room. Participants in the ProPel program took part in the fun event, which taught the importance of leveraging the strengths of each team member.

Every year at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters, University of Houston students, faculty and staff have the opportunity to help reduce plastic waste and win prizes by participating in the Office of Sustainability’s #UHBYOBottle social media campaign.
|

From the very first day the venue opened last December, the service has exceeded expectations. UIT has installed diagnostic equipment that constantly monitors the network performance, and staff perform network speed-tests before and during games to catch and correct performance issues before it impacts fans.

The Leadership Education and Development training was established to challenge the perceptions about leadership and the value that shapes it to make the University of Houston a world-class leader in higher education.

The A&F Division is sponsoring a series of weekly pop-up events being organized by Staff Council to encourage engagement and networking among employees. There will be food and prize drawings. The first is Tuesday, Aug. 27, from 3-4:30 p.m., at the Blaffer Art Museum's cafe in the Fine Arts Building.

Representatives from University Information Technology and the Division of University Marketing, Communication and Media Relations traveled to Cambridge, Massachusetts, to receive the award and present UH's mobile strategy to other higher education mobile professionals.

Houston Public Media’s leading music video performance series, "Skyline Sessions," recorded in the station’s George B. Geary Performance Studio, was featured in the August edition of NPR Music’s "Station Breaks." Indie-folk artist Erin Rae performed songs from her critically acclaimed album "Putting on Airs."

The largest piece of art in the Public Art of the University of Houston System is represented in the global guide, which highlights the best and most significant of permanently installed modern and contemporary art worth traveling to experience.

Facilities Planner Constance Hammack's work on the STEM and Classroom Building resulted in the Houston Business Journal bestowing the honor on the department, which serves the facilities planning and project management needs of the UH System.

Kudos to Zachary Faires, customer service specialist II in Student Business Services, Bursar's Office, Office of the Treasurer, whose S.T.A.R. service garnered the praise of a parent in quickly resolving an administrative error that precluded class registration for his daughter.

of Dining Team Catch Attention of Customers
The excellent service of the staff at Chick-fil-A in the Student Center South caught the attention of students and parents on the first day of the fall semester. One parent told Dr. Emily A. Messa, associate vice chancellor / associate vice president for Administration, the employees were doing an incredible job.
